In order to analize a structure, in addition to define and realize that structure, we must refer to some external actions, because otherwise there will be nothing to analyze. The most common actions to be considered in the tensile structures which can be applied in WinTess3 are:

  • Self weight
    As in any structure we must consider the weight of its components that form it. In the case that we are considering, generally the weight of the membrane is despised if it is very light compared with the rest of actions. But we should not forget the weight of cables (especially when they have considerable diameters) and tubes.
  • Point loads
    It is not usual, but it is clear that a tensioned structure can also support applied loads: speakers, lights, information boards, etc. It is not advisable since the deformations are usually large and wobble of these elements can be dangerous.
    WinTess3 only supports point loads in nodes instead of bars.
  • Snow
    Where the climate produces it, this load can be very important. In fact, regulations of individual countries tend to set the value of the snow load which used to depend on the geographical height the structure is located.
  • Wind
    We will hardly find a place where do not have wind (except interior tensile structures). This is a type of action that can also be very important in some areas, but the most serious is the rapid variation of wind gusts that causes significant changes in these actions.
  • Pressure
    Typical action of pneumatic constructions which are supported by air cover or swollen structures.
  • Prestress
    Action that is applied to the structure at the time of its execution and providing the necessary stability and rigidity. Usually applied to the membrane, but the way to do it is very varied: shrink patterns, stressing the guyropes (cables), elongating masts, etc.
